According to the UNHCR, an estimated 1.5 million people are internally-displaced in Somalia, with an additional 22,000 Somali refugees returning from nearby countries.

In fall 2017, The Unmentionables initiated a pilot project distributing reusable menstrual hygiene kits with the support of World Vision Somalia. Throughout this project, 280 Dignity Kits, each consisting of 2 pairs of tie-on underwear, 6 microfiber loops, and 1 clutch bag were provided to vulnerable women and girls living in period poverty. These products, as well as World Vision Somalia’s associated programs, enabled young girls to continue attending school.
