According to the UNHCR, an estimated 1.5 million people are internally-displaced in Somalia, as thousands of Somali refugees return from neighbouring countries due to ongoing civil war. The process of political and security stabilization is proving difficult, as political insecurity prevails and few humanitarian actors are present to assist with development, especially hygiene products and education programs.


In fall 2017, The Unmentionables initiated a pilot project distributing reusable menstrual hygiene kits with the support of EvaWear and World Vision Somalia. Transformation Textiles utilizes leftover fabric textile products to manufacture EvaWear kits, creating affordable, reusable, and accessible reusable menstrual pads for women and girls in East Africa.
