Project Launch: Expansion to Texas

Austin, TX: The Unmentionables is a non-profit organization that officially launched in fall 2016 with a mission to provide dignity through hygiene to displaced refugees. By distributing free and high quality “unmentionable” items like menstrual products, undergarments, and condoms to vulnerable populations, our hope is to empower individuals through hygiene.

Undergarments, condoms, and feminine hygiene products are often overlooked by other organizations, which leave many, particularly women and girls, vulnerable and without access to sanitary materials. We hope to fill this gap by providing displaced peoples with these basic necessities. This summer, we distributed 15,245 products to refugees in Greece. This is in addition to the 15,685 products provided to refugees since the organization’s founding. It is our primary goal to continue providing these much needed, but little talked about items to those who need them the most.

In addition to the great success that we had in Greece this summer, we also expanded the organization to Uganda and expect to see future growth. As a Texas-based organization, we have watched as nature took its toll in our own backyard. Hurricane Harvey has inflicted mass flooding and devastation along the coast of our state, leaving thousands displaced. Many have been left with only the clothes on their back. As such, today we announce our expansion to Texas. With the help of people like you, we hope to continue providing dignity through hygiene to our own state, which will be recovering from this disaster for some time.

The Unmentionables is reaching out to various organizations, leaders, and individuals currently seeking the following:

  • Suppliers we can purchase goods from locally or regionally;
  • Like-minded organizations to advocate or join us;
  • Regional experts who can advise on processes;
  • Transportation and supply chain partners in logistics; and
  • Future contributors interested in donating, interning, and volunteer
