Co-founder and COO Megan Beck Bids Farewell to The Unmentionables
In the summer of 2016 in Athens, Greece, Megan Beck saw a gap in refugee care that needed to be filled, and spent the last two years creating and growing The Unmentionables, alongside Co-founder and CEO Kaleigh Heard.
Megan’s dedication to providing “dignity through hygiene” to refugees impacted over 42,000 people in six countries within the first full year of operation. A key part in establishing the organization, she has been responsible for our human resources, finance, and operations teams.
Overseeing financial decisions and transparency, Megan saw to 91% of funds put toward impact-based investments last year. Further, during Megan’s tenure, The Unmentionables distributed over 147,000 products, including over 37,000 health and hygiene products in support of Hurricane Harvey emergency relief efforts within two months. In 2017, Megan was honored as one of ten women to receive Bustle’s Upstart Award, and we’re proud of what she’s accomplished during her time with us.
“Megan’s dedication to serving vulnerable communities at home and around the world has been clear since day 1. Her dedication and commitment to providing dignity through hygiene to displaced people has directly impacted the lives of over 42,000 people and her knowledge and leadership has been a driving force behind the expansion of our work in Greece, Uganda, and Kenya, ultimately increasing community investment in sexual and reproductive health and wellness around the world. Myself and The Unmentionables team are incredibly grateful for Megan’s dedication and leadership over the past 18 months and are looking forward to supporting Megan in her future endeavors,” says Kaleigh.
On June 30, Megan will be stepping down from her roles as Chief Operating Officer and member of the Board of Directors of The Unmentionables. The Board of Directors and Co-founder and CEO Kaleigh will continue to spearhead the organization and its dedicated team, continuing the organization’s mission to educate, empower, and protect displaced people around the world.
“I look forward to cheering on these compassionate, talented people as they continue our vital mission of investing in vulnerable refugee communities,” Megan shares, "I am confident in the organization's mission, vision, and capacity to expand our impact serving vulnerable people on a global scale."
