UnFiltered: A One Stop Shop for Sexual Health Information Needs

We are proud to announce the launch of our new innovative sexual and reproductive health platform, UnFiltered, created in partnership with RB and Durex.

The UnFiltered web portal and app are simple and easy to use. After opening, users have the option of searching specific questions or browsing the LEARN section. Topics include Your Body, Your Health, Sex & Relationships, LGBTQIA2+, and Consent, all of which are further divided into subsections, which can be navigated with just the click of your mouse or swipe of your finger. By providing this information in the palm of your hand, people who may otherwise have been unable or discouraged from seeking this information now have the opportunity to take control of their health and future in a discrete, secure manner.

A report conducted by the UNHCR in 2016 found that 93% of displaced people had access to a mobile network, compared to 95% of the general population. With many smartphones becoming affordable and more powerful, it is no surprise that people bring these with them to stay in contact with family members, document their journeys, and access vital information. Keeping this in mind throughout development, our teams wanted to create a platform to bridge the gap between education and access.

We found that 89% of the female refugees we surveyed want to learn more about sexual and reproductive health topics. Designed to allow the most vulnerable people access to this life-saving information from the privacy of their own phones, translated versions of the app and an SMS function will be rolling out in the future.

Education is a powerful tool for empowering and protecting vulnerable populations, and sexual education further emancipates people from stigmatization and insecurities. UnFiltered provides detailed, comprehensive information ranging from the changes one’s body goes through during puberty, how to determine if a relationship is healthy, what it means to ‘come out’, to information about sexually transmitted infections, as well as a variety of other topics. While designed with forcibly displaced people in mind, the information is applicable for all!
